The original Trishna in Mumbai is world renowned for it fresh seafood and attracts celebrities like Liz Hurley and gourmets from all over the world.
The brief was to translate this into an offer that would work in London’s fashionable Marylebone. Design inspiration was taken from Head Chef Ravi Deulkar’s (previously head chef of Michelin starred Rasoi Vineet Bhatia in Chelsea) menu, which is a subtle balance between modernity and authenticity.
We decided to create an interior that used the existing space to its full potential. The building itself which dates from the late 1800’s, informed the design process. We revealed original wooden paneling which we decided to preserve and incorporate into the new design scheme. We also exposed the brickwork where possible and repainted it in a warm white-wash.
Trishna London features a stylish yet subtle design, offering patrons a sophisticated yet casual dining experience. The original features that have been revealed bring an understated elegance to the space. Low hanging classic Alvar Aalto pendant lamps add a sparkling gleam above each table, attracting customers with a warm golden glow. In the back of the space, the long Koliwada (fisherman’s) table provides a more casual eating experience.
The space also features a fully opening shop front which allows diners to appreciate the alfresco dining experience during the summer months. The private dining room located in the basement can seat up to twelve people around a solid oak dining table. The golden highlights are continued with gilded porcelain lights which light up the space. Diners are offered a view onto the wine cellars.
