The Concept

B3 Designers worked on the interior direction of Roka and its subterranean Shochu Lounge in Charlotte Street, London, an early hospitality project for the studio that helped define our experience-led approach to restaurant design. The scheme balances the warm, tactile energy of a robata-led dining room with a hidden, theatrical bar beneath the restaurant, creating two distinct but connected encounters for guests.

Roka

For Roka we leaned into the drama of the robata grill. The open, energetic counter places food preparation at the heart of the room. The interior is contemporary and informal; a backdrop that elevates the theatre of the kitchen while keeping the experience approachable and convivial.

Shochu

Downstairs, Shochu is an intimate, moody lounge designed as a theatrical hideaway. The basement bar is known for its immersive decorative treatments, a long central bar, and low lighting that turns the space into a warm, immersive cocktail room. It’s a playful contrast to the more elemental robata dining above.
