Champions is a European sports bar and restaurant that serves classic bar dishes and drinks in the German city’s central district of Innenstadt.
Marriott’s design brief was for us to refurbish their 220-cover bar and restaurant and to include themes of the bar’s history and heritage – as a decade-old iconic destination, sports, burgers and beer – thus creating a space where guests could enjoy themselves in a casual and relaxed environment.
We designed the bar and restaurant’s furniture to be archetypal to the heritage.
A large bar sits centre, featuring fluted timber and backed by a wooden menu that displays old-school scoreboard-styled lettering.
The seating includes curved booths, high- bar seating and long communal oak timber tables with bench seats.
The black-and-white chequered tile floor is reminiscent of football referee kits.

Curved booth seating and sports-themed artwork.
The abundance of natural materials, rich tones and the darker colour scheme we chose to evoke a masculine, warm and comfortable vibe.
Copper finishes on the bar top and beer taps nod to traditional brewery tanks.
Sports-themed artwork and items such as vintage footballs, boots, boxing gloves, and tennis rackets bedeck the space.
HD large projector screens, installed on a central motorised system, allow the space to function as both a standalone restaurant and as a premium seating sports experience. The ambience is able to extend during the event or non-event of sporting broadcasts.
