Midtown Grill

Ghent, Belgium

restaurant / hotel

Situated in Ghent’s Marriott Hotel, this upscale steakhouse draws inspiration from 1930s Midtown Manhattan. Channelling Art Deco style and a speakeasy vibe, the 98-cover Midtown Grill is a contemporary take on old-world glamour. Deep-green walls set the tone, complemented by rust-red upholstery and swathes of warm wood. Guests are greeted in an intimate bar area, where a large illuminated refrigerator showcases an impressive selection of prime meat cuts, giving the diner a hint of what’s to come. Art Deco ceiling mouldings and historic wooden beams lend depth and drama to the restaurant space, which features an open kitchen and private dining room. The mix of materials – marble tabletops, leather wall panels, antique mirror and brickbond tiling – sits harmoniously with the building’s existing features. Elegant fixtures, such as a bespoke built-in bookcase, a considered lighting scheme and brass detailing, add to air of low-key luxury.
