This exhibition shows the portraits of the influential women in the royal courts during the reign of Charles II. The aim was to create an environment where all the portraits are watching each other, as the ladies would have done in the courts. Veils of gold partially screen the various views, acting like the ladies’ fans. The centralised bed and resting seat reference the chaise longue of the past. All the colours used enhance the sense of opulence.
