Art exhibition design needs a certain amount of creative flair; enough colour and richness to show the pieces off. But not so much as to overwhelm them.

The Painted Ladies exhibition included portraits of influential women in the royal courts at the time of Charles II. Our brief was to create a space which displayed the paintings in the best possible way, and one that could be enjoyed by the visiting public.

Influenced by the rich opulence of the restoration era we created a space in royal purples, blues and reds. The ladies faced each other as they would have done in the courts and veils of gold partially screened various views, acting like ladies’ fans. The centralised bed and resting seat referenced chaise longues.

A popular art exhibition design which allowed visitors to move around easily and fully enjoy the works.
