Shochu is a Japanese whiskey or fortified wine, and is the base of all the drinks served at this subterranean bar. Large blocks of ice are used to cool the drinks, which are lit by optic fibres to avoid melting. Recycled materials are used, such as the patchwork upholstery, rugged red fabric wall and bar top made from a disfigured Elm tree trunk that gives it its interesting texture. The smooth burnished copper panelling, lacquered tables and soft lighting complete the emphasis on contrasting textures and materials.
