Carbon - Best Bar in other spaces

Carbon- Best Bar Interior (other spaces), Restaurant & Bar Design Awards 2008/2009

Carbon Bar, situated within the Cumberland Hotel, won the Best Bar (other spaces) award at the Restaurant & Bar Design Awards 2009.   The prestigious Guoman Hotel group, approached B3 to create a destination venue within their Cumberland Hotel.

Inspired by industrial architecture, Carbon bar brings raw Shoreditch chic to the West End.  The materials play a key role in this design; concrete, brick, steel, mesh and leather contrast with oversized Chesterfields, bevelled mirrors and sketches of 21st century industrial living that cover the walls.

B3 designed Carbon to maximise space, space, privacy and the ability to be seen all at once.  Carbon Bar’s features include a Chain Room, with chains suspended from floor to ceiling to create a private function room; a Champagne Bar with an impressive 5 metre high champagne wall; a 14-metre bar created from concrete blocks; and a DJ booth located above the bar and floating mezzanine.

Industrial glamour runs through every detail of the space and the washrooms are no exception; the walls are adorned with mock blueprints that explain how to handle 20th century tools.  Ironically, the ladies washrooms feature scribbled pink instructions on how to handle-heavy duty machinery, while the gentlemen’s toilets display blue instructions from operating manuals for ovens, irons and household objects.
