Aubaine, Le Cafe, Selfridges, Manchester
brief
Having previously worked with Aubaine on two London sites we were asked to design an eatery in Selfridges Manchester. The concept of Aubaine Le Cafe was to be in keeping with the Aubaine restaurant brand but be suitable to the petite Lower Ground floor space in Manchester Exchange Square. In keeping with the Aubaine restaurant brand a relaxed yet sophisticated ambience was a key characteristic of the design.
Relaxed and Sophisticated Design
Le Cafe brings a further flavour of Parisian chic to Selfridges, Machester. The design features Aubaine’s traditional palette of grey and warm, light neutral tones. Marble surfaces, mirrors and soft lighting create a lovely relaxed ambience and have been used to great effect to achieve a sophisticated finish. The stylish design packs lots of detail in. All units including the bar, waiter stations, and shelving are made of wood with an antique finish contrasted with the high polished marble tabletops.
Light and Airy Space
The glass carcass of the Selfridges building provides a natural light source which helps to keep the space light and airy. This is complimented by bespoke arch shaped steel light fittings we designed specifically for Le Café. These beautiful lights are mounted directly onto the wall and project the light, allowing it to disperse evenly and effectively across the dining space.
Evoking Provence
Upon entering Le Cafe the design immediately conjures up the warm and sunny atmosphere of Provence. Lavender and white shades of natural linen seat upholstery are complimented by abundant planting which runs along the full length of the banquette seating. The display of freshly baked cakes and pastries is prominent, proving an irresistible temptation to passersby.
