Zaroob – Dubai

Brief

The brief was to create a fast, casual, Middle Eastern street food offer that would appealto a young, modern market audience with potential to have multiple, global locations.  We were instructed to communicate the ‘street food’ offer which is so prevalent in the Middle East in a way that is fresh, new and accessible. The design needed to do this without losing the inherent authenticity of the offer.

 design layout

The initial layout of the site wasn’t ideal for the front and back of house operations, which needed to allow customers to see elements of food preparation. We moved the staircase, allowing for more ground floor space. It’s always a challenge to get patrons upstairs. We used an elaborate balustrade sprayed pink and a product display shelf to connect the space from top to bottom.

Urban and Interactive

Zaroob is a fresh, casual, inviting space, which allows customers to sit, queue, watch and explore their surroundings. The traditional ovens and food preparation counter provide an experience that is interactive and theatrical. Inspiration has been taken from urban Middle Eastern settings, using ‘Kufiya’ scarves to create bespoke lampshades and contemporary street art to decorate the walls.
