Kick Zone

Brief

The brief was to design a casual, sports inspired restaurant, with roll out potential. The client wanted to look at a re-interpreting the archetypal sports bar to create an offer that would capture the fun and enthusiasm for sport whilst remaining an alcohol free family friendly environment, in Jeddah, KSA. The design needed to appeal to both families and single men so the layout had to provide clear separate zones for these groups.

research and inspiration

We looked at existing sports bars which often use obvious themes and are centred on big screens and alcohol. However, when we investigated the use of memorabilia and researched the semiotics of sport we found a wealth of ideas. Kick Zone celebrates the exhilarating nature and beauty of sport.

Creative use of Materials

We took a lot of inspiration from sports specific materials and used repetition to showcase these materials. Pantone specific tennis balls have been cut in half, creating a textured wall, while other sport’s gear including baseball bats, shuttlecocks and shoelaces fill the walls and ceiling. Gym-room like lines and shoe prints also move through the space. The net like string room provides clearly defined zones that appeal to both families and singles.
